Pulleys

There are a range of pulleys under the hood of your Mercedes that are responsible for guiding and providing tension to different belts. Your engine belts are routed around specific engine accessories, and you have an idler pulley in place that helps the belt to rotate smoothly around these components. The engine usually uses an idler pulley as well as a tensioner pulley. Over time, like anything else, your pulleys are going to wear out and need to be replaced. A bad or failing pulley will start to display symptoms that indicate they need to be replaced. It's important to check the condition of the pulleys often so that you can see if there is any visible wear on the surface. When your pulley spins the belt around, the belt and pulley will start to experience wear and tear. This can cause scoring marks to appear on the surface of the pulley. Another thing that might start happening is loud squealing noises from your belts. When the pulley wears out, it can cause belts to squeal as a result from contact with the worn pulley.
